Moving! It can be one of the most stressful parts of the whole real estate transitioning process.
There are so many things to remember and organize that if any one of them goes wrong there can be a whole avalanche of problems – but your dedicated real estate team here at Evans Realty LLC has some tips to help make your next move a success!
Change The Locks
Seems sort of like a strange idea to some, after all you just got the keys didn’t you?
While true, you can’t ever tell who else – from the contractor to the agent to the photographer for the builder – might have also had them before hand. In some cases there may even be a master key to multiple homes in the development. So it never hurts to swap out locks to keep things safe.
Inventory Your Belongings
Before you move, before you even start putting things in boxes, go around and make an inventory of everything. Maybe not every individual thing down to the knick knack level, but certainly the larger or more important items. This will help you make sure nothing has been forgotten and also make it easier to find when unpacking.
Clean and Paint FIRST
Make use of the empty space before you move your stuff in. You may need to do some post-construction cleaning beforehand; if you plan to paint in the near future it’s much much easier to do so before you move all the furniture in – otherwise you’ll be playing couch tetris after the fact.
Have A Plan
As the day approaches it’s good to have a plan in place. Have the movers hired, or all the logistics figured out if you plan to do it yourself. Consider having the kids or pets stay with a friend or relative on move day to keep the chaos down to a dull roar. Plan ahead for the day by having an ice chest of beverages and ready to go food on hand, as chances are there may not be a lot of time for meal prep and you don’t want a hungry/angry bunch.
Moving day doesn’t have to be hassle – neither does the process up to it; that includes buying or selling your home. Real estate in Idaho is performing extremely well and it’s a great time to consider a move if you’ve been waiting on the fence for the market to improve. Contact us today to see how we can help!
